Nursing education is a specialty that draws from nursing and nursing education science as well as from adult, vocational, and higher education science.

The Certificate in Teaching in Nursing is for nurses seeking academic teaching positions and those whose clinical roles include teaching and faculty development.

As a student in the program, you gain the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to envision, design, conduct, and evaluate innovative, evidence-based classroom and clinical pedagogies. You expand your current nursing knowledge base and develop new knowledge or skills in evidence-based teaching of nursing.

To earn the certificate, you complete 15 to 17 credit hours of graduate course work. You take five courses, including a teaching practicum:

  • Curriculum in Nursing
  • Evaluation in Nursing
  • Computer Technologies for Nurse Educators
  • Teaching in Nursing
  • Nursing Education Practicum

Completion of the certificate program fulfills the educational eligibility requirements for the National League for Nursing Certification for Nurse Educators program.
